VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Location and Design Study Public Involvement
(CENTRAL VIRGINIA)

Development and implementation of innovative and effective public involvement campaigns for Location and Design Studies and development of Environmental Impact Statements in conjunction with lead engineering firms.

INVENERGY POOR MOUNTAIN WIND ENERGY PROJECT
(ROANOKE COUNTY)

Developed communication strategy to gain public support for the development of a wind farm. Responsible for relationship development with neighbors, community and governmental leaders, media and environmental groups throughout evaluation period and into project permitting phases. Developed project informational materials and web site content and coordination of public outreach meetings and hearings. Project pending subject to reinstatement of Renewable Energy Production Tax Credits.


WILSON JONES COMPANY/ACCO BRANDS POST CLOSURE
Permit Modification/RCRA Corrective Action
(CROZET, VIRGINIA)

Developed and implemented communication strategy to gain public understanding and support of the Permit Modification Request and the subsequent RCRA Corrective Action Program. Activities included one-on-one contact with property neighbors, community and governmental leaders and the media. RCRA program and associated public involvement activities ongoing in association with environmental consulting firm, AEM. 


REPUBLIC SERVICES 623 LANDFILL
(GOOCHLAND, VIRGINIA)

Development and implementation of public involvement strategies to facilitate approval of special use permits from Goochland County for the expansion of the landfill. Work included stakeholder outreach and messaging, preparation of informational materials, presentations and media relations. Permit approved. 


ADAMS CONSTRUCTION ASPHALT PLAN SPECIAL USE PERMIT
(ROANOKE COUNTY)

Development and implementation of public outreach plan. Planning and coordination of public meetings, presentations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. Media outreach. Development of informational materials. Special Use Permit approved.


BOXLEY REZONING FOR A NEW QUARRY
(CAMPBELL COUNTY)

Development and implementation of public outreach plan. Planning and coordination of public meetings, presentations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. Media outreach. Development of informational materials and blog site. Rezoning request approved.


COBBS CREEK RESERVOIR PROJECT
(CUMBERLAND, VIRGINIA)

Development and implementation of public involvement strategies through the permit application process, including environmental agency outreach, media relations, landowner outreach and community newsletter. Approvals for permits from all state and federal agencies received.


HAMPTON ROADS CROSSING NATURAL GAS PIPELINE (AGL RESOURCES)
(HAMPTON ROADS, VIRGINIA)

Development of strategic direction for public outreach and media relations as well as preparation of project information materials and web site content throughout the permitting and right-of-way acquisition process. Project approved by all necessary agencies in 15 months. Construction completed in January 2010.


SOLITE CORPORATION
Hazardous Waste Permit
(ARVONIA AND CASCADE, VIRGINIA)

Developed and implemented public involvement campaign to improve relationship between the company and community while educating citizens on the benefits of burning hazardous waste as an effective and environmentally responsible disposal method. Permanent hazardous waste permit issued by DEQ Winter 2004. Developed RCRA Public Involvement Plan for Arvonia plant.


INTERMET CORPORATION
Crisis Communication, Air Permit, Community Advisory Board, RCRA Program
(RADFORD, VIRGINIA)

Developed and implemented community outreach campaign to neighbors near the auto parts manufacturer whose homes and cars were being damaged by dust emissions and avoided legal action threatened by City Council and the Commonwealth Attorney. Moderated Citizen’s Advisory Committee to maintain positive communication between citizens and the company. Handled public involvement activities related to the re-issuance of an Air Permit for the reconstruction of the New River Foundry after the fatal explosion and the announcement of the Radford Foundry closure. 


LEAKING LANDFILL
(BEDFORD, VIRGINIA)

Assisted City with public involvement activities related to cleanup of closed landfill leaking volatile organic compounds onto adjacent properties. Activities included public disclosure of the issue and notification of neighbors, public meetings, presentation of possible remedies, media relations.


AEP
Location of 765kV Transmission Line
(TAZEWELL AND ROANOAKE, VIRGINIA)

Developed and implemented public involvement campaign to solicit citizen input regarding the identification of important community, natural and environmental resources that could be affected by a controversial AEP 765kV transmission line proposed to run from Tazewell to Roanoke. Project successfully completed.
